There is talk that the new iPhone may or may not have MMS or picture messaging like most other cell phones. I think this is a non-issue. Here is an easy way to do picture messaging to/from the iPhone without the cumbersome “multimedia attached” text notifications that require you to go to a website and enter a name and password each time.
Receiving a picture message on an iPhone from a cell phone
Most cell phones will accept an email address, in place of a cell phone number, when doing text/picture messaging. So if you want to send a picture message to an iPhone user, send it to their email address - not to their cell phone number. They will be able to open it easily using the iPhone’s built-in email app and you can simply send it using your cell phone like normal. You can program their email address into the phone book on your cell phone for easy access.
Sending a picture message from an iPhone
It’s easy to email pictures from the iPhone. Its just as easy to put in a cell phone user’s cellular email address. That way, they will receive your email as a text/picture message. A cellular email address starts with the person’s 10 digit cell phone number followed by the domain name of their cellular carrier. You can program it into your iPhone’s email address book. The following is a list of common US cellular carriers and their domains for SMS/MMS text/picture messaging:
| Alltel | @message.alltel.com | ||
| AT&T | @mms.att.net | ||
| Nextel | @messaging.nextel.com | ||
| Sprint | @messaging.sprintpcs.com | ||
| SunCom | @tms.suncom.com | ||
| T-mobile | @tmomail.net | ||
| VoiceStream | @voicestream.net | ||
| Verizon | @vtext.com (text only) | @vzwpix.com (pictures and videos) |
(text messages generally have a combined total limit of 160 characters in the subject and message body)
